Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) on 22nd November announced its 2019 newly elected academician list and Professor Zhang Ping of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT) was elected as academician of CAE's Information and Electronic Engineering Department.

Academician Zhang Ping is a professor of Faculty of Information and Communication Engineering, BUPT and an IEEE Fellow. He is the Director of National Key Lab of Networks and Communications, a member of Expert Group of China's IMT-2020 (5G) programme.

Academician Zhang Ping for decades has been focusing on the research and innovations of mobile communications systems. He is one of the main contributors to Chinese fast and impressive development of 4G standardization and commercialization, making Chinese proposed TD-LTE standard one of the major 4G standards in 3GPP and TD-LTE systems deployed in many countries globally. Over the years, he received National Science and Technology progress special prize once, National Science and Technology progress first prize once, National Technology Invention second prize twice, National Science and Technology progress second prize twice.

In 2001, Academician Zhang Ping founded Beijing StarPoint Technology Company Limited. Since its inception, StarPoint has been focusing on the research and development of wireless and mobile communication system technologies and products. As of today, StarPoint has grown into a world leading supplier of mobile communication testing solutions and products. In the last almost two decades, under the leadership of academician Zhang Ping, StarPoint has developed testing products for TD-SCDMA, TD-LTE,NB-IOT and eMTC systems.
